Bagel crisps are a great way to use leftover bagels. These crunchy bagel chips, seasoned with herbs and garlic powder, are perfect for a snack or served on an appetizer platter with your favorite dip.
Begin by slicing the bagel into small rounds. Place the bagel on a cutting board, and with a serrated knife, cut the bagel in half across the hole, then cut it into thin slices. You are aiming for slices 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. You can do thick slices if you prefer, but they will take longer to back and they may not fully crisp.
Place the bagel slices into a large bowl, then add the olive oil and toss to coat.
Add the seasonings and toss again to ensure all the bagel chip pieces are well seasoned.
Baking Bagel Chips
Preheat the oven to 325°F.
Spread the seasoned sliced bagels in a single layer on an ungreased baking sheet. For easy cleanup, you can line the baking sheet with parchment paper.
Bake the bagel chips for approximately 20 minutes, or until the bagel pieces are crispy and golden brown, flipping them about 10 minutes into the cooking time.
Remove them from the oven and turn them onto a wire cooling rack. You can move them to an airtight container or ziplock bag for storage when they have cooled completely.
Air Frying Bagel Chips
Place the bagel chips in a single layer in the air fryer basket or tray.
Set the air fryer to 350°F for five minutes. Shake the basket halfway through.
After 5 minutes, check on the chips, they should be golden and crispy. If they still feel soft, add a minute to the cooking time until they are crisp.
Turn the crisps onto a wire cooling rack. Once they are cool, transfer them to an airtight container or ziplock bag for storage.
Notes
These bagel chips work best with bagels that have not been precut.
