Quick and Easy Poke Cakes

Poke cakes are a quick and easy dessert that anyone can make. They are made with simple ingredients and can be made in any flavour you can imagine, from fruit flavoured, to chocolate and everything in between. One cake will usually serve between 12 and 16 people, so they are a great choice when you want dessert for a crowd. Poke cakes will become your new favourite cake, perfect for any season and occasion.

Poke cakes, with their endless flavour combinations and simple ingregredients, are one of the easiest cakes you can make.

To make a poke cake you only need three things; a cake, a filling, and a topping.

You can choose to bake a cake from scratch, use a box cake mix, or even buy a plain, unfrosted sheet cake from your local grocery store or bakery.

The filling for poke cakes can be as easy as mixing a box of flavoured gelatin with water and pouring it in the holes, or you can use pudding, fruit curd, chocolate or caramel sauce, or any other pastry filling you can imagine.

To top the cake choose frozen whipped topping, homemade frosting, fresh whipped cream, or a tub of store-bought icing.

You can choose to decorate poke cakes, if you wish, with things that complement the flavours of the cake you made, such as chopped nuts, toasted cocount, chocolate shavings, candy sprinkles, fresh fruit or chocolate sauce. Or you can simply serve the cake as is.

No matter the flavour of the poke cake, they are alwasy delicious with a side of whipped cream or ice cream.

Most poke cakes will serve between twelve and sixteen people, making them perfect for serving a crowd. These quick and easy desserts will become a favourite.

Equipment and Supplies

There are very few supplies you need to make a poke cake.

You will just need regular, kitchen baking supplies, which you likely already have, plus the ingredients.

9×13 Baking pan – Most poke cakes are made in a 9×13 baking pan. You can use a glass baking pan, or a non-stick metal pan.

Wooden spoon – The round end of a wooden spoon is the perfect tool for making the holes in the poke cake. It is large enough to allow thicker fillings, such as pudding and fruit curd to fill the cake. If you don’t have a round-end wooden spoon, the wide end of a chopstick often works well.

Cake Mix – The simplest poke cake comes from starting with a boxed cake mix. These come in endless flavours, so you can easily find one to suit the type of cake you want to make. Vanilla, chocolate, or white cake are the most popular, but you can use anything you like.

Instant pudding – One of the quickest, and most flavourful fillings comes from a a box of instant pudding. Just like cake mixes these come in endless flavours, so you can truly get creative in making your cake.
