Why we Love English Muffin Pizza
Air fryer English muffin pizza may become your favorite lunch, dinner, or quick snack. These little personal pizzas only take a couple of minutes in the air fryer.
Homemade pizza, while delicious, can be a lot of work. But when you use an English muffin as the crust, you can have tasty personal-sized pizzas in just a few minutes.
English muffins are a great pizza crust because the chewy texture of the muffin, along with the divots and holes in the bread, is perfect for holding all your favourite toppings. It has enough structure to not fall apart, and the bottom gets nice and toasty for a crispy crust .
It’s a great way to use up English muffins that may have gone a little stale, as the pizza sauce will help soften them, and because you are toasting them, you won’t even notice if they are a bit past their prime.
You can add any of your favorite pizza toppings, and they make a great breakfast pizza when topped with egg, bacon or crumbled sausage. As a dinner, they are perfect for a busy weeknight because they are made with simple ingredients and you can use almost anything you have on hand to top them.
They are also fun to add to a pizza bar, along with tortillas, bagels, and a variety of sauces, toppings, and cheese so that everyone can make their own.

You only need a few simple ingredients to make homemade English muffin pizzas.
English Muffins – You can use any flavour variety you like. We used a plain white English muffins, but you can use whole wheat, sourdough, or any other variety you prefer.
Pizza sauce – We just used a store-bought jar of sauce. But you can make your own if you like, or use another variety of tomato sauce, such as store-bought marinara or other pasta sauce like pesto or alfredo.
Cheese – We kept things simple and used mozzarella cheese. But you can use cheddar cheese, marble, parmesan cheese, or a blend of cheese. While we recommend shredding your own for the best flavor and texture, you can use store-bought pre-shredded for this recipe if you like.
Toppings – Get as creative as you want. Keep it simple with pepperoni or ham, or load them up with all the veggies. It’s up to you.
There really is no limit to how creative you can get with these tasty pizzas. There are so many great options.
Some of our favorite toppings are:
- Cooked, crumbled bacon
- Cooked, crumbled sausage
- Ham
- Diced bell peppers
- Sliced olives
- Diced onion
- Sliced jalapeno
Step by Step Instructions
We love these English muffin pizzas because they are so simple, and there really is no right or wrong way to make them.
Begin by splitting the muffin, then spread each half with pizza sauce.
Add the cheese and toppings as desired.
Preheat the air fryer at 380°F for 5 minutes, then place the English muffin halves in a single layer in the air fryer basket. You should be able to fit 2-4 pizzas, depending on the size of your air fryer.
Place the basket in the air fryer, set it to 380°F and cook for 2-4 minutes until the bagels are hot and the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden brown. The cooking time may vary depending on the size and type of air fryer you have.
Pro Tip – While we don’t always find preheating the air fryer necessary, for this recipe, we found that preheating the air fryer helped melt the cheese faster and prevent the air circulation from blowing the cheese or toppings off of the bagels. Therefore, we recommend not skipping this step.
Storing Leftovers
You can store leftover pizzas in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about 3 days.
You can also store these mini-pizzas in the freezer for several months.
