What are Cheeseburger Egg Rolls?
Cheeseburger egg rolls are a fun and unique finger food that are perfect as a delicious appetizer, snack, or meal.
They are great for parties, movie night, or game day.
They combine two classic favorites, the cheeseburger and the egg roll.
These easy cheeseburger egg rolls are baked, giving them a crispy and crunchy texture without needing a deep fryer. Inside is a savory filling of ground beef, cheddar cheese, onions, and seasonings that taste like your favorite cheeseburger.
They are easy to make, requiring just a few simple ingredients, and they can be easily customized with any of your favorite hamburger toppings, such as tomatoes, mushrooms, or jalapenos.
While we use cheddar cheese in our egg rolls, you can use anything you have on hand, such as Swiss, mozzarella, or pepper jack.
Cheeseburger egg rolls are perfect for parties or as an appetizer, served with ketchup, mustard, ranch dressing, or special sauce for dipping.
They can be enjoyed hot or cold, and leftovers make a great addition to a lunch box.
Ingredient Notes & Substitutions
For a full list of ingredients and measurements, see the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.
Egg roll wrappers – For best results, you will want egg roll wrappers about 4 inches by 4 inches, but any size will work. Just adjust the filling accordingly. Wonton wrappers can also be used for smaller bite-sized appetizers.
You should be able to find these at your local grocery store. Sometimes they are near the produce section, and sometimes they may be found in the frozen aisle.
Lean ground beef – While you can use regular, lean, or extra lean ground beef, we suggest using lean beef for this recipe. It will provide a nice flavor without making the egg rolls too oily.
Onion – You can use white, yellow, or red onion without issues.
Garlic – We generally use fresh garlic but granulated or garlic powder can be used if you prefer.
Cheese – We highly recommend sharp cheddar, but any cheese will work well. Monterey Jack, pepper Jack, and Swiss are nice alternatives.
Ketchup, Mustard, Relish – These condiments will add flavor and moisture to the mix. Feel free to change these if you don’t have something on hand. Dijon mustard can be used instead of yellow, BBQ sauce instead of ketchup, and green or red relish.
Additional ingredients:
- Olive oil
- Worcestershire sauce
- Salt & Pepper
Step by Step Instructions
Baked egg rolls are easy to prepare with just a few steps.
Prepare the Filling
Begin by preparing the cheeseburger filling.
Heat a medium skillet over medium heat, saute the onions and garlic, brown the beef, then stir in the condiments and cheese.
Pro-Tip: Ensure you are draining the fat from the beef before adding the seasoings, and cheese otherwise the egg rolls will be too greasy.
Roll the Egg Rolls
Rolling the egg rolls is not complicated; they don’t have to be perfect. After the first time, you will find a method that works best for you. The main thing is not to roll them too tightly and ensure they are sealed.
Step 1 – Place a wrapper on your work surface with a point facing you. Add a couple tablespoons of the meat mixture in the center or the wrapper from point to point, horizontally.
Step 2 – Fold the corner facing you over the filling.
Step 3 – Fold each side point over the filling.
Step 4 – Roll the egg roll into a log. Add a dab of water to the top corner and gently press it to the egg roll to seal.
Bake the Egg Rolls
Place the egg rolls in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Lighly spray the top with olive oil, or use a pastry brush, then place in the oven.
Bake for approximately 10 minutes, then flip the egg rolls and bake another 10-12 minutes or until crispy and golden brown.
Pro-Tip: If you are using a higher fat beef, you can skip the step of brushing the egg rolls with oil as the wrapper will absorb the fat in the beef and get crispy without added oils.
Cheeseburger Egg Roll Variations
It is easy to add variation to these easy cheeseburger eggrolls.
Turn them into bacon cheeseburger egg rolls by adding some cooked, crumbled bacon to the ground beef mixture.
You can use ground turkey or chicken instead of beef if you want to reduce the calories.
Add some chopped dill pickles for extra crunch and tang.
If you want smaller, bite-sized appetizers or snacks, use wonton wrappers instead of the larger spring roll wrappers. Just place a spoonful of the cheeseburger mixture in the middle of the wrapper and fold the corners to form a pillow.
Air Fryer Cheeseburger Egg Rolls
Turning these into air fryer egg rolls is simple; the only difference is the cooking method.
Place the assembled eggrolls in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
Lightly mist the tops with olive oil spray, set the air fryer to 400°F, and cook for 7-8 minutes until golden and crisp.
Serving Suggestions
We love serving these baked eggrolls as fun appetizers. But we’ve frequently served them as a main meal, too.
They are best when served with a yummy dipping sauce, such BBQ sauce, honey mustard dip, or burger sauce. But simple sides such as ketchup, mustard, or ranch dip also work well.
On an appetizer platter, they go well with other crispy finger foods such as jalapeno popper wontons, buffalo chicken wontons, or other flavourful dishes such as Elote dip!
We like to serve them as a main meal with a fresh caesar or garden salad. For a more substantial meal, crispy french fries, sweet potato fries, or even creamy mac and cheese have been a hit.
Equipment

You don’t need any fancy equipment to whip up a batch of these yummy appetizers.
Medium skillet – One medium skillet is all you need to cook the egg roll filling. We use a 10-inch cast iron pan for most of our cooking, but you can use any pan.
Baking sheet – You will need one 9×13 baking sheet.
Parchment paper – Parchment paper makes clean-up easy and helps prevent the egg rolls from sticking to the pan.
Storage
Leftover egg rolls can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days.
They can also be frozen for several months.
Top Tips & FAQS
- Don’t overstuff the egg rolls. Overfilling them will make them harder to roll, and they may burst open while baking.
- Use lean or extra lean ground beef for the best results, as beef with a fat ratio that is too high will make the egg rolls greasy.
For best results, reheat egg rolls in an oven at 350° or an air fryer. They can also be microwaved, but they will no longer be crispy.
You can easily prepare these egg rolls ahead of time. After rolling them, place them on a baking sheet, cover them, and refrigerate until ready to bake. You can also freeze unbaked egg rolls and cook them from frozen when you are ready.
