Blue cheese is one of those things you either love or hate. As a cheese, I don’t love it, but when you combine that pungent blue cheese with a creamy base to make a dip, it’s fantastic.
This dip recipe is thick and creamy and has a nice blue cheese flavor.
This recipe is perfect for parties and game day celebrations, with the creamy, cheesy dip ideal for offsetting the spicy heat of hot wings.
We love to serve it with a platter of Crispy Air Fried Honey Buffalo Wings, or tasty Buffalo Chicken Drumsticks.
It is also great with other spicy appetizers such as Buffalo Chicken Wontons, Habanero Hot Wings, or Bacon Wrapped Chicken Tenders.
The creamy dip also tastes great with veggies such as carrots or celery sticks, and it can easily be thinned to use as a salad dressing.
Making blue cheese dip is super easy, taking only about five minutes. The best part about making your own is that you can control the flavor. If you like a lot of the pungent cheese flavor you can add more, and if you prefer a lighter flavor, simply add less.
A batch of this dip will last for about one week in the refrigerator if stored in an airtight container or jar, so you can make a batch on the weekend and use it all week.
Ingredients & Substitutions

Crumbled blue cheese: You can use any variety of blue cheese you like, but this recipe will work better if you choose one with a softer texture such as Gorgonzola or Cambozola. Other varieties will work, but they may not blend as well into the mayonnaise and sour cream.
Sour cream: Sour cream adds a tangy flavor to the dip that helps balance the strong flavor of the creamy blue cheese. You can use full-fat or light sour cream, or if you want to lessen the calories and increase the protein, you can use plain Greek yogurt.
Mayonnaise: Mayonnaise forms the base of this creamy dip. You can use full-fat, light, or fat-free mayonnaise depending on your preference. Do not confuse this with salad dressing such as Miracle Whip which will give the dip a much different flavour.
Lemon Juice: A little bit of lemon juice adds some acid and helps bring out the flavor of the blue cheese. You can use fresh or bottled lemon juice.
Garlic powder: This recipe uses a small amount of garlic powder. Garlic powder is preferred over fresh for this recipe as it adds flavor without being overpowering. If you would like to use fresh, use a very small clove, or about 1/4 tsp of minced garlic.

Making Blue Cheese Dip
Start by chopping or crumbling the blue cheese into small pieces, you will want about half a cup.
Add the crumbled cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, lemon juice, and garlic powder to a small bowl and mix well.

For the best results, let the dip rest in the refrigerator for about thirty minutes before serving to allow the flavors to blend.
How to Make Blue Cheese Dressing
You can easily turn this dip into a dressing by thinning it out with a bit of buttermilk.
Slowly wisk buttermilk into the mixture until you have the consistency you like for a salad dressing. You may want to add a bit more blue cheese so that the flavor is not muted.
You can also mix the ingredients with an immersion blender if you would prefer to have a smooth dressing.

Storing Blue Cheese Dip
This dip can be stored in an air-tight container or jar in the refrigerator for about one week.
Freezing this dip is not recommended.
