Flatbread pizza is a great way to enjoy pizza when you don’t have a lot of time to prep.
Store-bought flatbread makes the perfect, crispy pizza crust, and because it is already baked, your pizza can be on the table in less than 15 minutes, making it ideal for busy weeknights.
Naan pizzas are a family favorite because the flatbreads are the perfect size for a personal pizza. Because they are small, you don’t have to feel guilty about eating the whole thing, and its easy for everyone in the family to make their own and add their favorite toppings.
The classic Margherita pizza is a simple pizza topped with fresh sliced tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and fresh basil.
Instead of a sauce, the crust is brushed with olive oil and fresh garlic, adding to the savory flavors.
Of course, it’s easy to change or add to the toppings if you choose. This pizza is delicious with basil pesto, cherry tomatoes, or a sprinkle of parmesan cheese. Finish it off with a drizzle of balsamic glaze for an extra pop of flavor.
Ingredients & Substitutions
For a full list of ingredients and measurements, see the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.
Store-bought naan flatbread – I used regular naan in this recipe, but whole wheat naan would also be great. If you don’t have naan, you can use any form of flatbread, such as pita bread or store-bought pizza crust.
Extra-virgin olive oil – Instead of traditional pizza sauce, this Margherita pizza is brushed with olive oil and fresh garlic, which adds flavour and compliments the fresh tomatoes and herbs. However, these little pizzas are also great with other sauces such as pesto, garlic sauce, or tomato sauce. It would also be delicious with homemade pizza sauce.
Shredded mozzarella cheese – Shredding your cheese at home will give you the smoothest, meltiest cheese and the best-tasting pizza, but this recipe works ok with pre-shredded cheese if that’s all you have. Instead of shredded cheese, you could also use pieces of fresh mozzarella or mozzarella pearls.
Fresh Tomatoes – You definitely want to use fresh tomatoes in this recipe. I generally use Roma tomatoes, but you can use any variety you like. Fresh cherry tomatoes work well, or you can use heirloom tomatoes or beefsteak tomatoes.
Basil – Fresh herbs are essential. You want to add these after the pizza comes out of the oven to preserve the aromatic flavor.

Step by Step Instructions
In a small bowl, mix the olive oil and fresh minced garlic.
Place naan flatbreads on a baking sheet and brush the top of the flatbread with olive oil and garlic. For easy clean-up, you can line the baking sheet with parchment paper.
Add shredded cheese to the top of each naan bread, and then add the tomato slices.

Place the pizzas in a preheated oven and bake the pizzas for 8-12 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and the edges of the flatbread are golden brown.
Remove from the oven and sprinkle with fresh basil leaves. If desired, add a sprinkle of sea salt or a drizzle of balsamic vinegar.

Air Fryer Margherita Pizza
You can easily cook these flatbread pizzas in the air fryer instead of a conventional oven.
While you are assembling the pizzas, preheat the air fryer at 380°F for five minutes.
After the preheat cycle has completed, place the pizza in the air fryer basket.
Set the air fryer to 380°F and cook the pizza for 4-5 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and the crust is golden brown.
If your air fryer does not have a setting for 380°F, reduce the temperature to 375°F. The cook time should remain the same.
Serving Suggestions
This classic pizza makes a great meal on its own, but if you are looking for a more substantial meal, there are a variety of sides that go well with pizza.
We often serve pizza with chicken wings, and this tomato basil pizza goes exceptionally well with air-fried parmesan garlic wings.
If you want a simpler side, you could add some air-fried french fries. Or serve this pizza with a delicious chicken Caesar salad.

Storing Leftovers
You can store Margherita pizzas in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.
Allow the leftover pizza to cool completely, then wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or store it in an airtight container.
It can be reheated in the microwave. You can also reheat it in the oven at 350°F for 5-7 minutes or an air fryer at 320°F for 3-5 minutes.
