We love burgers, and while we like traditional burgers often, we also love a good, crispy chicken burger.

The chicken burger patties in this recipe are made with chicken breasts pounded flat and coated in crunchy cornflake crumbs and a seasoning of onion powder, garlic powder, and smoked paprika.

They are similar to a fast-food chicken sandwich but so much better.

We like to serve ours on brioche buns, but you can use sesame-seed hamburger buns, potato rolls, or ciabatta buns.

Then, you need to choose your toppings.

Our favorites are garlic mayo, fresh tomato, and lettuce, but you can add a slice of cheese, red onion, pickles, or any other favorite burger toppings you desire. We also like BBQ sauce, honey mustard mayo, and burger sauce.

From start to finish, these burgers are ready in about 30 minutes, making them a great weeknight meal.

Chicken breast – This recipe uses whole, boneless, skinless chicken breasts cut in half and pounded flat to make the chicken patties.  If you prefer chicken thighs, you could use those instead.

Cornflake crumbs – The coating on these chicken breast patties is crushed cornflakes.  You can either crush your own or buy a box of cornflake crumbs.  If you don’t like cornflakes, you can substitute panko breadcrumbs.

Seasonings – We use a simple blend of smoked paprika, garlic, onion powder, and a pinch of cracked black pepper to season the breading.  Add cayenne pepper, chili powder, or chili flakes to spice things up.   Or you can use a different seasoning, premixed BBQ seasoning, cajun seasoning, or even ranch seasoning make tasty burgers.

Egg, cream, and hot sauce – The floured chicken is dipped in a blend of egg, cream, and hot sauce, adding flavor and giving the cornflake crumbs something to stick to. You can omit the hot sauce if you don’t want the spice.

Step by Step Instructions

Begin by cutting each chicken breast in half, then place the chicken breast halves between two pieces of plastic wrap and pound flat with a meat mallet or rolling pin.

Serving Suggestions

These crispy chicken burgers make an easy dinner with a simple side like french fries or salad.

An easy way to serve these burgers is to place everything on the table and let the family make their own, which is great for the picky eaters in the family. You can use any of your favorite burger toppings and sauces.

We love them with garlic chive mayo, but you may like chipotle mayo or spicy sriracha mayo for something spicier.  You can also keep things simple and use bottled BBQ sauce, ranch dressing, or mustard.

Storing Leftovers

Leftover patties can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about three days.

They can be reheated in the air fryer to refresh their crispy coating. Set the air fryer to 350°F and heat for 3-5 minutes.
